Most home owners who do not appeal annually pay excess property taxes. A market value appeal is based on the assessor’s value exceeding the market value of your home. The lower value stands when appealing market value and unequal appraisal. Appeal both every year. The Texas Comptroller reports 80% of 2019 property tax appeals by home owners were successful.

Some homeowners believe “you can’t fight city hall.”  But property owners win 60 to 80% of property tax appeals. Mass appraisal models make it impossible for appraisal districts to accurately value most houses.
